Description
The countries of the eastern Med are generally seen as being home to rural farming and fishing communities, living ‘the good life’. It’s still true that the people of Greece, Croatia and Turkey spend their lives closer to nature than many of their European fellow citizens – and probably live longer for it too!
However, the urban centres and holiday resorts in these sun-blessed regions are sophisticated and cosmopolitan, and facilities for sailors in the smarter harbours and marinas reflect this. Of course, out among the countless tiny islands of Greece and Croatia, or along Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, you will often spend the night in a secluded bay with safe anchorage, and there are no tides to worry about in these crystal clear waters. You’ll enjoy fresh produce in countless welcoming restaurants, lokantas and taverns, and fresh seafood is abundant, though never cheap – unlike the wines, which are probably best described as ‘young and fresh’!
