RYA hails Fastnet crew a success
Aug 17th, 2009
The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) has praised its young team of sailors after they finished 11th in this years Rolex Fastnet Race last Wednesday. The 14-strong crew skippered by Luke McCarthy managed to attain the very respectable placing in the famous event even though it was the first Fasnet for many of them.
Mr McCarthy spoke about the "spirit" and "determination" of his crew to the RYA.
He said: "Everyone is just over the moon to have completed the race.
"There had been some doubts during the season as to whether the boat would be fit enough to compete, but the fact that we're 11th overall is huge testament to the crew and the amount of work they've put in over the season, and all the support weve had from various companies to enable this has been hugely helpful."
RYA's Racing Manager John Derbyshire heaped praise on the skipper, noting that he "pulled the team together".
The Fastnet Rolex Race features more than 600 miles of ocean racing, which takes in Aberdeen, Frankfurt, Geneva, La Rochelle and Plymouth.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
