Shelley Jory to race with yachting legend at Cowes-Torquay-Cowes
Aug 24th, 2009
Shelley Jory, the reigning queen of women's world powerboat racing, is set to team up with legendary yachtsman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston to take on the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes powerboat race. The pair are set to compete side-by-side in the event, which is thought to be one of the hardest one-day endurance powerboat events in the world.
A Scorpion Rigid Inflatable Boat packing 630 hp will be the chosen vessel for the event, which will see the two famous sailors compete together.
Sir Robin commented: "When Shelley asked whether I would like to navigate for her in the Classic Cowes-Torquay-Cowes powerboat race, it took one second to accept.
"This is something I have not done before so naturally I want to find out what it is all about. This will be fun with the spice of competition."
London-born Knox-Johnston was the first person to sail solo and non-stop around the globe and was awarded a knighthood by the Queen in 1995.
The Cowes-Torquay-Cowes race is 171 miles long and gets underway on August 29th.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
