Lifejacket proves worth in Swansea
Aug 24th, 2009
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has once again heralded the importance of lifejackets after an incident involving the Swansea Coastguard on a mooring near Instow Beach. After falling into the water while attempting to board a vessel, a man was kept afloat by a lifejacket when he was unable to get out of the water.
The 50-year-old from the local area, who has not been named, was then rescued by a team from Swansea Coastguard.
Watch manager Steve Jones said: "We are happy with the successful rescue of this man today and wearing a lifejacket has proved again to be so vital.
These conditions were quite benign today but once you spend more than a few minutes in cold water, tiredness and hypothermia can take effect and you will struggle to keep yourself afloat."
Royal National Lifeboat Institute vessels patrol more than 100 beaches around the UK and Ireland and rescued nearly 8,000 people last year.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
