Skippers warned over 'drink-sailing' risksSkippers have once again been warned of the dangers of sailing while under the influence of alcohol after a trawler captain ran aground off the English coast.

The risks of drink-driving have long been apparent thanks to years of tough policing and high-profile advertising campaigns.

When it comes to sailing, the authorities have warned that too many people adopt a much-more casual approach to the issue.

This is exacerbated in the summer months as leisure sailors take yachts out for holiday trips in the sunny weather.

As such, Scarborough Police have opted to make an example of the skipper of the trawler who was found to have 81 microgrammes of alcohol on his breath after his vessel ran aground close to Filey,

The legal limit stands a just 35 microgrammes.

"This is contrary to the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003, which equates to the legal standards set out for motorists in the Road Traffic Act," a police spokesman advised.

The seven-man crew of the ship had to be rescued by lifeguard and coastguard teams, while the undamaged boat has since been recovered. ADNFCR-2431-ID-19330548-ADNFCR

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.

Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
