King of Norway joins Wirral yacht club

King of Norway joins Wirral yacht clubThe King of Norway has accepted an invitation to become an honorary member of the Royal Mersey Yacht Club.

The club, which is one of the oldest in the UK and dates back to 1844, has long boasted royal ties.

Queen Victoria was appointed its first patron, a position that is currently occupied by the Duke of Edinburgh.

As such, the club's former Commodore, Dr Nicholas Jedynakiewicz, decided to take the step of approaching King Harald V of Norway and inviting the monarch to take up an Honorary Life Membership of the club.

Now, according to the Liverpool Daily Post, the king, who is a keen yachtsman and has represented his country in sailing at three separate Olympics, has accepted the offer.

"We are delighted that His Majesty has accepted Honorary Life Membership of this historic Mersey club," current club Commodore David Massey told the paper.

As well as King Harald, Spain's ruling monarch, King Juan Carlos is also known to be a skilled sailor, regularly taking part in yachting events across the Mediterranean.ADNFCR-2431-ID-19330467-ADNFCR

Yacht Testimonials
"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.

Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
