Reconstruction almost completed on 9th-century yacht

Reconstruction almost completed on 9th-century yachtA vessel being constructed in Oman is about as far removed from today's luxury yachts - such as the SY RM Elegant - as you can get.

According to Yachting Monthly, the Jewel of Muscat project - in which a ninth century ship is being re-built using only methods used at the time of its initial launch - is nearing completion.

The boat is based on a wreck discovered more than a decade ago and will be sailed to Singapore when reconstruction has finished.

Techniques used to recreate the ancient yacht include the use of coconut fibres to sew the hull together and goat fat mixed with lime to protect the wood.

The 18 metre vessel will be piloted using traditional techniques, such as reading the stars and sun, with modern methods only being used as a back-up.

In contrast, the SY RM Elegant can sleep up to 30 guests and has its own pool and formal dining room.ADNFCR-2431-ID-19401852-ADNFCR

Yacht Testimonials
"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.

Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
