Calls for Caribbean air duty to be reviewed
Oct 14th, 2009
Those planning on chartering a luxury yacht in the Caribbean may be interested to hear that the House of Lords has called for a review of the proposed rise in air passenger duty on flights to the area.According to the Daily Mail, Liberal Democrat Lord Newby has branded the idea of taxing those flying to the Caribbean more than other places "ridiculous and stupid".
He questioned the sense behind a move that will see the duty rise by more than 100 per cent by the end of 2010.
The increase is aimed at countering carbon emissions as part of the UK's efforts to reduce its contribution to global warming and climate change.
However, City Minister Lord Myners warned creating exemptions for the Caribbean could call the legality of the tax into question as it is based on how far away a country's capital city is.
Those planning on sailing around the archipelago this winter could do so on the Sea Bass - a 70-ft Sunreef Yachts vessel capable of sleeping up to eight guests.
The ship comes with two crew members and has its own dinghy and water skis to keep holidaymakers amused.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
