Piloting a chartered yacht in the Caribbean
Oct 19th, 2009
A recent article on Slate.com has recounted the writer's experience of chartering a yacht in the Virgin Islands.Seth Stevenson explained how he took a short yacht sailing course in Virginia with his girlfriend before planning their trip to the Caribbean.
He explained how, once they arrived in Tortola, they and two friends were shown to their charter - a large catamaran.
Mr Stevenson was then given a binder of instructions and told to swot up before being asked to demonstrate his competence in sailing by piloting the vessel out of the marina and erecting the mainsail and jib.
He then set sail for nearby Norman Island to begin a ten-day holiday sailing in the Caribbean.
Brits looking to embark on a similar voyage can choose to sail a chartered yacht on their own or opt for a luxury crewed yacht such as the Catsy.
The vessel is a 62-ft sloop and sleeps up to eight guests with two crew members.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
