Caribbean coral 'should be protected'

Caribbean coral 'should be protected'Yacht charter customers in the Caribbean could see a reduction in the range of spots they are allowed to dive in if one organisation has its way.

The Centre for Biological Diversity has filed a formal petition asking for 83 coral species to be protected under the Endangered Species Act.

While some of these are to be found in US waters around the mainland, many are located in the country's Caribbean territories.

The body has warned that coral reefs could become the first worldwide ecosystem to collapse due to global warming.

It predicted this could occur by as early as 2050, with oceans director Miyoko Sakashita stating that they are providing an early warning of the potential impact of fossil fuels.

"Within a few decades, global warming and ocean acidification threaten to completely unravel magnificent coral reefs that took millions of years to build," she said.

Those wishing to explore the reefs of the Caribbean could do so aboard the Seazen II luxury chartered yacht.

The crewed sailing vessel sleeps up to ten and is kitted out in Japanese-style decor.

Yacht Testimonials
"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.

Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
