Yachts embark on next leg of round-the-world race
Oct 28th, 2009
The ten yachts competing in the Clipper Round-the-World Race have left Brazil's Rio de Janeiro bound for South Africa's Cape Town.Crews have already negotiated the first two legs of the competition, in which they sailed from Hull, UK, to France's La Rochelle and then across the Atlantic to Brazil.
The third race will cover 3,300 miles and those aboard the yachts will be hoping for favourable winds to push them towards the Cape of Good Hope.
Vessels from Scotland, Ireland, Australia and Jamaica are among those challenging England's Hull & Humber and each will vie for position over the next two weeks as they make the journey across the South Atlantic Ocean.
While race four is still a long way off, the competitors will face a trip from South Africa to Australia, while subsequent legs will see the vessels press on to China, California and the Caribbean, before returning to the UK.
Those looking to skip all the hard work and head straight for the Caribbean Sea could charter a luxury yacht such as the Abuelo - a 70-ft motorboat capable of sleeping up to eight guests and a crew of three.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
