Summer moorings can be theft risk
Jul 1st, 2009
Boats which are moored in the summer months are more likely to be the targets of theft than vessels which are unused in the winter. That is according to a new report by Saga Boat Insurance which reveals that 68 per cent of insurance claims come in the summer months.
With the current elevated price of marine equipment and the tight economic situation of many yacht lovers, due to the recession, Saga has suggested a number of security measures that could help to keep a vessel secure.
The measures include fitting an alarm, not just to the vessel but to individual equipment, wheel clamps and outboard motor locks.
Outboard motors are the most stolen item according to Saga, with the average claim being for more than £800.
However, this summer is not all doom and gloom for yacht enthusiasts, with thousands gearing up to attend a number of major boat shows, including the Monaco Yacht Show which begins on September 23rd.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
