Debate over Caribbean APD continues
Oct 29th, 2009
The debate over the UK's Air Passenger Duty (APD) system looks set to rumble on, with a prominent Caribbean travel expert urging Brits to take action.Caribbean Tourism Organisation spokeswoman Carol Hay explained that the tax is unfair on those flying to the Caribbean as the banding means a family will pay more than those travelling further to a US destination.
Speaking to Travel Weekly, she said that basing the levy on how far away a country's capital is from the UK was unfair.
It effectively means someone travelling to Hawaii or Los Angeles would pay less tax than those heading for the Caribbean, despite the distance being much greater.
The APD will increase on Sunday (November 1st) and will rise again on the same date in 2010.
Brits heading to the Caribbean on a luxury yacht charter holiday may opt for the 70-ft sailboat Seazen-II from Sunreef.
Capable of sleeping up to ten guests, the vessel comes with a crew of three and features its own jet ski and dinghy.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
