Change of leadership in Clipper Round-the-World Race

Nov 6th, 2009
Change of leadership in Clipper Round-the-World RaceThe competition between yachts in the Clipper Round-the-World Race is hotting up after a night-time switch of leaders.

Irish vessel Cork overtook the UK's Hull & Humber after two days on its tail and is now attempting to build up a lead over its rivals.

The boats are racing from Rio de Janeiro to South Africa's Cape Town as part of the second major leg of the competition.

Despite taking the lead, the crew of Cork has had to deal with a few problems, including the spinnaker pole detaching from the lines that control the sail.

"Our crew leapt into action, it was all hands on deck, a blizzard of activity," explained Dawn Dupree.

"As we set to rectify the equipment failure [captain Ritchie Fearon's] commands were loud and clear and our crew worked together like a well oiled machine."

The vessels are past the half-way stage in their trip to Africa and will stop in Cape Town before beginning the next leg to Australia.

Yacht Testimonials
"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.

Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
