Tories would abolish APD

Nov 6th, 2009
Tories would abolish APDA Conservative government would scrap the controversial Air Passenger Duty (APD) changes that have increased the cost of flying to the Caribbean.

According to shadow transport minister Julian Brazier, the Tories intend to revisit the levy should they be voted in at the next general election, the Telegraph reported.

The initial increase came into place on November 1st, with further rises set for 2010.

However, there has been much consternation over the issue, which sees those flying to the Caribbean charged more than visitors to the west coast of the US - despite the tropical archipelago being closer to the UK.

Mr Brazier explained the "absurd capital cities rule", whereby passengers pay a tax based on the distance between their destination country's capital and the UK, will be abolished if the Conservatives come to power.

Those who wish to travel to the Caribbean's tropical islands may enjoy a luxury yacht charter on board a vessel such as the 70-ft Sea Bass, which sleeps up to eight guests.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.

Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
