Clipper yacht race prize-giving takes place in Cape TownThe third stage of the Clipper Round-the-World Yacht Race has been completed, with a prize-giving ceremony taking place in South Africa's Cape Town.

Organiser Sir Robin Knox-Johnston - who was the first man to sail solo and non-stop around the world - greeted the sailors with a message of congratulations.

"Well done - it is a great achievement. I congratulate you all," he said.

"Lots more to come of course - but you're getting pretty hardened now, salt getting into your veins. You'll see it through. Good luck on the next leg."

Pete Rollason, skipper of California, was given the Merit Award for Outstanding Seamanship after his crew managed to sail the last 1,100 miles of the race using emergency steering.

His amateur sailors managed to fashion a makeshift steering system after part of their original kit snapped.

Captain Rollason thanked the other crews for their support over the past few weeks and referred to his own as heroes of the sea.

The boats will soon set sail on the next leg, which will see them head east to Australia, with other stops including California and the Caribbean scheduled before they reach the finish line in the UK.

Yacht Testimonials
"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.

Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
