97 yachts set sail for Halifax
Jul 6th, 2009
The 2009 Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race has gotten underway with 97 vessels setting course for Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada. The 360 nautical mile route from Boston Yacht Club in Massachusetts will see nearly 100 yachts of varying classes race to Halifax Harbour.
In this year's race, the 90-foot yacht Rambler is thought to be mounting a challenge to the course record of 33 hours, 29 minutes and 57 seconds which was set by a 70-footer some 20 years ago, according to Chronicle Herald.ca.
Marblehead yacht Alexis' crew said, "At 1800 hours on Sunday, four hours after our start, we have already seen the fleet becalmed by two massive holes.
"Most of the fleet veered south with the onset of the first hole, while perhaps 12-15 yachts stayed north (us amongst them), gambling on a sea breeze closer to shore. The others missed the first whale sighting, and perhaps the first wind differential."
The Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race began in 1905 as a competition between the Boston, Eastern, and New York Yacht Clubs.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
