No luxury yacht charter for Clipper crews

Dec 7th, 2009
No luxury yacht charter for Clipper crewsThose signing up to the Clipper Round-the-World Yacht Race knew at the time that the experience, although great, would be no luxury yacht charter.

If there was any doubt in their mind it may have been erased by what Spirit of Australia skipper Brendan Hall described as an "hour of lemons" at breakfast.

However, while luxury yacht charter customers used to their own private chef may find their stomach turning at the thought of having to eat just lemons for a meal, the phrase actually refers to the speed rating of "0.0" knots.

The crew of Spirit of Australia were stuck with no wind to carry them forward and, without the luxury of an engine to fall back on, were left kicking their heels with nothing to do but wait.

Followers of the race around the world will know that the ten vessels are currently on their way to Western Australia's Geraldton-Greenough from South Africa's Cape Town.

Unfortunately for the British vessel Hull & Humber, it has a lot of catching up to do before it reaches Australia, after a collision with Irish yacht Cork at the South African start line left both boats requiring days of repairs.

Yacht Testimonials
"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.

Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
