British yacht enthusiasts return home from Iran
Dec 8th, 2009
The British yacht enthusiasts who were held by Iranian authorities after being blown off course into politically-sensitive waters have returned to the UK.Attempting to sail from Bahrain to Dubai last month, the crew of the vessel, which included four British residents and a Bahrain-based ex-pat, found themselves arrested and detained by the Revolutionary Guard.
However, after establishing that their intentions were not malicious, Iran agreed to let the four sailors return home.
"I want to thank everyone who has worked on it and all the people who have supported us," 26-year-old Sam Usher told BBC News, adding that it is "absolutely fantastic to be back".
The men had been en route to Dubai to compete in a yacht racing event, but decided to fly straight home after being released by the Iranian authorities.
The race they had intended to take part in began the day after their capture in any case and was already completed by the time they were released.
Dubai and other states in the United Arab Emirates are popular destinations for luxury yacht charters, especially when the trip coincides with major events like the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
