Yachters rescued in the Solent
Jul 7th, 2009
The Royal National Lifeboat Institute's (RNLI) Solent Coastguard was involved in a dramatic sea rescue yesterday (July 6th) as a yacht was left stricken and sinking.A helicopter and boat rescue team was sent to the 11 foot Octavia vessel after it crashed into a World War Two submarine defence system.
A male and a female sailor were helped to safety after their lifeboat failed to inflate.
The yachters weren't the only rescue of the day for the sea rescue team, due to a second alert regarding two swimmers that was raised minutes later.
Watch manager for the Solent Coastguard Matt West was keen to praise the preparedness of the yachters, commenting that their swift Mayday call and correct use of lifejackets saved their lives.
He went on to say that their actions also "meant that immediate attention could also be given to the two people in danger of being swept out to sea in Littlehampton".
The RNLI performs patrols on more than 100 beaches in the UK and Ireland and helped more than 10,000 people last year.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
