The newly-built Sandringham Yacht Club in Melbourne is the hosting venue for the first leg of the ISAF Sailing World Cup, which commenced on December 14th.A number of Olympians and world championship medallists arrived in Australia for the stop, with a strong breeze and large waves combining to offer racers ideal conditions.
The event, which runs until December 19th, is a part of 'Sail Melbourne', with Australia one of seven countries hosting stops making up the World Cup series.
And it is hoped that the Melbourne leg will allow a number of locals to appreciate the fun that can be had by having a sailing lifestyle.
Bruce Griffiths, chairman of Sail Melbourne, said: "We are all thrilled that the ISAF Sailing World Cup has come to Melbourne.
"We are looking forward to watching the event grow over the next three years into a sports entertainment platform which will become an exciting fixture of the city's event calendar."
Great Britain, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, France and the US are the other countries incorporating events as a part of the ISAF Sailing World Cup.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
