Largest ever Kiwi yacht hits the water
Dec 17th, 2009
The largest sailing yacht ever to be built by a New Zealand firm has been launched into the water of Auckland's Viaduct Harbour.Measuring 58.4 m (191.6 ft) long, the Kokomo is the longest vessel of its type to be made by Alloy Yachts.
The boat will spend the next two months in final commissioning and sailing around the Waitemata.
Boat maker Alloy Yachts began with "an ambitious project to build a 28 m aluminium yacht" in the early 1980s.
At that time, vessels measuring 12 m long were considered large in New Zealand, with the focus more on performance sailing than luxury.
Almost three decades later, performance is still a key consideration, but those booking yacht charter holidays often seek a level of opulence that did not exist in the 1980s.
Vessels such as the RM Elegant super yacht epitomise what today's modern affluent customers desire - an boat capable of sleeping up to 30 guests, whose every whim will be catered for by a crew of 30.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
