Limit pushed hard but hold early lead in Rolex Trophy Rating Series
Dec 17th, 2009
Alan Brierty's RP 62 Limit team coped best in challenging conditions to hold the overall lead after the opening two races of the Rolex Trophy Rating Series. After two teams failed to reach the start line for the opening race, 12 yachts took to the choppy seas in Sydney, which only worsened as the day progressed.
High winds caused added problems for the crews, competing in two divisions, with Limit getting off to a fine start by winning the first race.
However, the task proved far more challenging in Race 2 as they lost control of their heavy spinnaker and had to cut it away from the yacht, although they recovered to finish third.
Owner Alan Brierty was especially pleased with the outcome bearing in mind the little time his team of worldwide individuals have had to gel.
He said: "Considering we have a pretty new crew from all over the world, I think we did a great job.
"We've got guys from Spain, England, New Zealand, the US and Australia. It's a boat of all nations."
The Rolex Trophy is held every year and is seen as a significant event in the build-up to the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
