Yacht race crew hoping to be on land for Christmas

Yacht race crew hoping to be on land for ChristmasThe crew of Hull & Humber are the only sailors in the Clipper Round-the-World Yacht Race not to have made it to Australia so far.

The vessel suffered a collision with Cork as the fleet left South Africa around a month ago, with the two boats being kept in port for repairs.

However, Cork was given a few days head start on its UK rival due to less work needing to be done and has now arrived in port on the west coast of Australia.

The sailors on Hull & Humber hope to be able to join their rivals in port on Christmas Eve, allowing them to celebrate the festive season before heading off again on the next leg of the journey.

Meanwhile, they celebrated a milestone in the boat's history today (December 22nd), captain Piers Dudin explained.

"[The vessel] has a spring in her step today as she's expecting a rather special celebration. Today, around midday, Hull & Humber will have sailed 100,000 miles," he said.

The skipper added that for any boat to rack up such mileage was outstanding, but to do it in less than five years is astonishing.

Yacht Testimonials
"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.

Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
