Clipper yacht shipped inland for festival display
Jul 9th, 2009
One of the biggest yachts due to take part in the upcoming Clipper Round the World Race is due to be dismantled and taken inland to go on display at this year's Great Yorkshire Show. The Hull and Humber yacht, which is 68-foot long will be displayed at the annual Harrogate event over the next few days, the BBC reported.
Too big to navigate inland waterways, organisers and crew members will be required to work together to de-rig the yacht and then load its hull and its mast onto separate lorries, bound for the Harrogate Showground.
After the event comes to an end, the Hull and Humber will make the 60-mile trip back to the Humber Estuary, from where the round-the-world race will start in September.
The crew of the yacht will be competing against both amateur and professional sailors in the prestigious event, which is expected to take around ten months to complete.
The Clipper yacht race was first held in 1996 and is held every two years, with Hull and Humber finishing in second place in the 2007/08 event, behind the New York team.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
