Dec 24th, 2009
The Akarana crossed the finish line first in both legs of the Sir John Compton Memorial Race in the Caribbean to take the overall first prize in the event.Run between the popular luxury yacht charter destinations of St Lucia and Martinique, the yacht braved the difficult windy conditions to prevail.
The annual event, which takes place in memory of the late St Lucia prime minister and yacht enthusiast, had to be cancelled last year because of strikes in Martinique.
However, no such problems were noted this time, with the Akarana crew receiving their prizes from Lady Janice Compton at the St Lucia Yacht Club.
In between the event's two days, the teams were treated to a dinner after docking their boats at the Yacht Club de Martinique, which additionally featured entertainment from a dance troupe dressed in traditional costume.
Compton was the prime minister of St Lucia on three different occasions, the latter of which lasted from December 2006 until his death the following year after a succession of strokes.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
