Luxury Yachts in pole position for Valencia Grand Prix fans
Jun 24th, 2010
As Formula One’s teams prepare for this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday 27 June 2010, things are hotting up in this year’s Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships. In a wide open contest, McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton is narrowly in the lead with 109 points, hard pressed by team mate Jenson with 106 and Red Bull’s Mark Weber on 103. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has 94 points, just ahead of second Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel with 90. A win is worth 25 points, so it’s still too close to call in the Drivers’ Championship.
McLaren heads the Constructors’ Championship leader board with 215 points, with Red Bull on 193, after which it’s a long way back to the only other realistic contender Ferrari with 161 points. They hope to narrow that gap with a new low exhaust system designed to improve the aerodynamics of the car, similar to that already used by Red Bull, who must now be looking to regain pole position on the grid with the fastest hardware.
Recent history shows that fast machines have the advantage at Valencia, although its port circuit is widely criticised for being a ‘Poor Man’s Monaco’, mainly referring to the limited opportunities for overtaking which can make for a bit of a procession. The weather forecast is for possible light showers on Saturday which should certainly add a little spice to the qualifying sessions. As ever, the choice of tyres could prove to be a deciding factor.
The circuit runs around the America's Cup village built for the yacht race in 2007 and there are facilities for up to 100,000 spectators. And with sunshine almost guaranteed on the day, where else would a Grand Prix enthusiast want to be on Sunday morning than relaxing gin and tonic in hand aboard your elite yacht moored in the north or south Marina? One of these sleek beauties arranged by luxury yacht charter specialists such as Dream Marine makes an ideal ‘base camp’ for soaking up the spectacle.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
