Jul 15th, 2009
Zac Sunderland, a 17-year-old sailor from California in the US is about to become the youngest ever person to sail around the world solo. The young yachtsman has almost completed his voyage in his 36-foot vessel named Intrepid and is set to land at the Marina del Rey, near Los Angeles on Thursday morning (July 16th).
While in port on Monday, the record breaker said: "I'd do it again in a heartbeat It's been an amazing year. Tons of fun, lots of great stuff."
Sunderland was speaking after having to be pulled into port in San Diego to make repairs on his engine, which he uses while in ports, and also to make the necessary customs checks.
The round-the-world sail by the teenager will have taken him more than 13 months and will break the record previously held by Australian David Dicks, who set the record in 2006, aged 18.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
