Jul 21st, 2009
Competition at the British Classic Yacht Club (BCYC) Cowes Regatta 2009 began yesterday (July 20th).Four classes of yacht raced including modern classics and a record turnout was recorded at the event.
BCYC commodore David Murrin said: "With all the current economy issues the size of this regatta is just marvellous and is a real vindication of the value system of the BCYC.
"It really feels like the club is in the right place at the right time with this sort of event."
The seventh annual running of the event will see classic fleets racing in courses around the Solent until July 25th.
Yachts that are traditionally welcome at the event are those over 30 foot long on deck, but special classes have been welcomed this year including Spirit yachts, Stellas and classic yachts that measure between 24 foot and 30 foot.
Today the gentlemen take a break from competition as Ladies race day gets underway.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
