Lifejackets key to survival
Jul 22nd, 2009
Yarmouth Coastguard has issued advice about safety at sea after completing two rescues off the north Norfolk coast last night (July 21st). In both instances the crews were inadequately equipped with lifejackets which led the body to issue a statement highlighting the need to use safety equipment.
Christina Martyn, Watch Manager for Yarmouth Coastguard said: "It is very irresponsible to put to sea without taking the proper precautions to ensure your safety.
"Lifejackets and VHF radio are the very minimum recommendations to ensure safety and well being while at sea."
The two rescues which sparked the plea from the coastguard service both involved fishing vessels.
During the first rescue a boat was towed to shore with three people on board, only one of which has a lifejacket on.
The vessel had also set sail without a working radio or telecommunication device.
In the second incident a two man crew of an inflatable craft had become lost and disorientated, neither had a lifejacket or radio.
Thankfully nobody was hurt during the two rescues.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
