Cowes week due to set sail

One of the jewels in the British yachting calendar, Cowes Week Regatta, is set to get underway tomorrow (August 1st).Some 8,500 competitors will flock to the regatta which was founded in 1826 and is the thought to be the oldest event of its type in the world.
Running until August 8th, the event will see hundreds of thousands of spectators visit the small town of Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
Around 40 races will take place every day and a total of 1,000 vessels will compete during the nautical spectacular.
The event, which is synonymous with British yachting, is as also famous for its social events with a vast array of entertainment and activities for nautical fans, such as BBQ's, bars, parties and the prestigious Royal Yacht Squadron Ball.
As part of this year's competition, celebrities such as Alistair Campbell and Davina McCall are set to compete in the Artemis Challenge, which is a sprint covering a 55 mile course around the island, according to the Southern Daily Echo.
