Olympic champion in Cowes yacht collision

Double Olympic gold medallist Shirley Robertson was involved in a crash at Cowes after her competition catamaran hit a spectator vessel.Competing in the iShares cup event, Robertson and team mate Dee Caffari were forced to retire from the race after the accident left her 40 foot yacht unable to carry on.
The collision took place off of Egypt point and the spectator was taken to hospital with bruising.
Caffari, who was the first woman to sail non-stop around the world in both directions, spoke to the Daily Telegraph after the collision.
She said: "To have the race cut short like that was devastating and we were all shocked and upset to find someone had been hurt, though for me, I just got wet and suffered a blow to my pride."
More than 8,500 compeitors are due to compete at Cowes week 2009 and more than 100,000 spectators are expected to view proceedings.
