Baby boy born on lifeboat
Aug 4th, 2009
A woman has given birth to a healthy baby boy aboard an RNLI lifeboat.Oban lifeboat was launched from Craignure, Isle of Mull to transport the pregnant lady from her island home to the Oban mainland.
However, the new mum gave birth on the vessel with the assistance of a doctor and a midwife.
She said: "I would like to thank all the local health staff for their help for me and my new son.
"The midwife on Mull was brilliant and full of advice and support and all the staff at the maternity unit in Oban have been great and made us feel very welcome.
David Isaac, from Oban lifeboat, said: "It was quite a night. When we left Mull we had nine on board and ended up with 10."
The birth was the fourth on an Oban lifeboat since August 1997.
RNLI lifeboat crews rescues on average 21 people a day around the coast of Britain and Ireland.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
