Yacht saved from sinking by tube of glue

Yacht saved from sinking by tube of glueA yachtsman stopped his 50-foot yacht from sinking in Poole Harbour with a tube of glue.

Stephen Spencer, from London, was forced to employ the help of a £6.98 tube of glue and a piece of plywood when he found a five-inch square hole in his craft.

Mr Spencer had already attempted to pump out the water but with little effect, so he was forced to turn to more low-tech methods.

After repairing the leak, the make shift repair enabled the sailor to get to a marina.

He said: "I took the boat out to sea and sailed to Fox's Marina in Ipswich without taking on a single drop of water.

"I learnt two things from this experience. Firstly, two inches of scrap ply and an old sanding block are worth keeping, regardless of what your partner might say when she is tidying up the boat! And secondly, if I'd got the hole when I'd been at sea, the boat would definitely have gone under."

Yacht Testimonials
"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.

Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
