Thirty regatta sailors is sea rescue drama
Aug 6th, 2009
A sea rescue involving thirty regatta sailors took place off the coast of Plockton, in Loch Carron, west Scotland last night (August 5th).The sailors had been enjoying their trip until they were engulfed by a squall and had to call for help, according to the Marine and Coastguard Agency (MCA).
Organisers of the event alerted the coast guard that two rescue boats which were already helping needed further assistance.
Stornoway Coastguard rallied rescue teams from several local areas which included sea vessels and a rescue helicopter.
Martin Collins, Stornoway Lifeguard watch manager, said: "Bad weather can turn a pleasant sail in to a dangerous situation at any time.
"The race organisers had taken the precaution of making sure all participants were wearing lifejackets, accompanying the fleet with two rescue boats and raised the alarm straight away. Because of these safety precautions this unpleasant incident didnt end in tragedy."
The MCA is a partner of Sea Vision UK which works to promote the importance of maritime issues in Britain.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
