Two men have been arrested after allegedly making hoax calls to the Milford Haven Coastguard service.A 999 call was placed to the coastguard claiming that two men were stranded and drifting in a rowing boat, sparking a major rescue effort.
The team, which included a helicopter and crews from Aberystwyth and New Quay in Wales, were launched to the aid of the vessel only to find that the men were safe on shore.
Milford Haven watch manager Nigel Yelland said: "This hoax call has wasted time and resources for the emergency services as well as diverting resources away from any other potentially serious incidents where people could genuinely need help in a life or death situation.
"Hoax calls can cause lives to be lost."
The Royal National Lifeboat Institute was also involved in a rescue on Saturday afternoon when the Forth Coastguard was called out to help 14 people, stranded on a causeway on Cramond Island.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
