Sydney Hobart race could whet appetite for luxury yacht charter
Nov 24th, 2009
While most Australians will still be thinking of working off the pounds gained at Christmas dinner, hundreds of adventurous sailors will be boarding 112 yachts in Sydney on Boxing Day.The 65th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will begin on December 26th and is set to be a great spectacle for those watching the fleet set sail, organisers have said.
Unlike luxury charter yachts, the boats involved will be aiming to get to their destination as quickly as possible and those in charge are predicting an exciting race.
"The way this year's line honours contest is shaping up and with the calibre of international yachts and sailors heading our way, we can expect the eyes of the world to turn to our event when the starting gun is fired at 13:00 [local time] on December 26th," said Cruising Yacht Club of Australia commodore Matt Allen.
The club this year decided to increase the size limit for participating vessels, meaning boats of up to 100 feet can enter.
Much of the media attention is likely to fall on Bob Oatley's Reichel Pugh 100 Wild Oats XI, which could win its fifth race in a row.
Brits who are inspired to charter a luxury super yacht could opt for Sea Force One or the RM Elegant.

"I would recommend Dream Marine to others. Everyone was easygoing and helpful. I didn’t mind who I talked to. It was all good. Shame having to come back to London afterwards.
Come on Chris… when’s the next one?"
